Beyond Big Business
In October 2005, the GHI launched the "Beyond Big Business" partnership involving 5 pioneering multinational companies across Africa - Eskom, Heineken, Standard Chartered Bank, Unilever and Volkswagen with the support of UNAIDS and the Swedish International Development Agency. The large companies in the pilot programme worked with the GHI to engage select SMEs along their supply and distribution chains in the implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace programmes. In twelve months the pilot alone reached approximately 50,000 people and its scale up has the potential to reach 1 million people in Africa. The GHI documented all programme learnings and based on them developed tools to aid other companies that are keen to engage in this approach which can be accessed using the links below. Today over 10 companies are involved. If your company is interested in joining the fight against HIV/AIDS in the workplace, please contact the GHI directly on globalhealth@weforum.org.

Despite the fact that more and more large organizations are responding to the HIV/AIDS business threat by implementing workplace programes, the same cannot be said for majority of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
